As part of the recently launched Facebook Journalism Project, we’re convening our first Media Hackathon.
One of our longest standing traditions at Facebook is hackathons, where our engineers take a break from their day-to-day work to explore new problems and technical solutions. We’re launching a program globally where Facebook engineers will host industry experts for a day of practical design thinking and team-based prototype development to build tools that meet the needs of media companies and news consumers on or off Facebook.
Our event in New York on March 9th will focus on these themes:
local news solutions
new storytelling formats
emerging business models
eye witness media
helping to curb news hoaxes
We’re looking for developers, designers, product managers, business leads, reporters, and anyone with the interest and perspective to help create and build tools that serve today's news ecosystem.
Hackathon attendees will learn about the industry and its needs with inspiring talks from industry leaders. Teams will have access to Facebook and partner beta products and tools. Facebook Engineers will also be available for deep dives and tutorials on Facebook Live, Instant Articles and more.
Top teams will have one week following the date of the hackathon to refine and then present their ideas to a panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded following judging.
Space is limited, please RSVP by Monday, 20 February and we'll follow up to confirm your participation.
